CHICAGO, July 2, 2021 — The chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Bonnie Caver, honored five IABC Fellows for their work on the Career Road Map Task Force as the recipients of the 2021 Rae Hamlin Award, an award that recognizes volunteers for their commitment to advancing the Global Standard of the communication profession. The award was announced during the Excellence Gala at IABC’s World Conference this week.
This year’s honorees, Amanda Hamilton-Attwell, Adrian Cropley, Neil Griffiths, Mary Hills, and Anna Marie Willey, led the Career Road Map Task Force to develop the IABC Career Assessment tool. This tool provides a benchmark for communication professionals to determine where they are on their career journey with a professional development path for growth. Beyond personal achievement, the assessment also allows HR professionals a tool for writing job descriptions and assessing staff qualifications with the guide of the Global Standard.
“The IABC Career Assessment is a ground-breaking achievement for the communication profession,” said Caver. “It allows professionals to elevate conversation and advocate within their organizations around the difference between communication as a skill and communication as a profession. This team of communication experts has given us a tool to transform the communication profession and how it is perceived within organizations. What a gift.”
Career Roadmap Task Force Background:
The Career Roadmap Task Force (2020-21) is a dedicated team of active, long-serving global IABC volunteers: Adrian Cropley, OAM, FRSA, SCMP from Australia; Mary Hills, ABC, Six Sigma from the United States; Dr. Amanda Hamilton-Attwell, ABC, CPRP from South Africa; Neil Griffiths, ABC, Chart.PR from the United Kingdom; and Anna Marie Willey, ABC, MC from Canada. The team was part of the original Career Roadmap Committee, formed in 2011, which worked to develop the Global Standard for the Communication Profession, which focuses on six core principles – ethics, consistency, context, analysis, strategy, and engagement.
All members are IABC Fellows, committed to local and international work within IABC and the communication profession. Their past individual roles have spanned all IABC career milestones as communication professionals culminating with achievements at every level. Under the directive of IEB Chair Bonnie Caver, the team reunited in late 2020 to finalize the concept for IABC’s Career Assessment, a tool for communication professionals to gauge their knowledge and skill proficiency within the Global Standard.
